Tom Brady is considered by most to be the greatest player in NFL history. But as successful as he's been on the gridiron, he's had to sacrifice plenty throughout more than two decades to reach that status.

Now, he's entering his age-45 season amid a marriage crisis with Gisele Bündchen, a turmoil that has made him gain a different perspective on life, his career, and what's truly important.

He Still Cares

Brady recently admitted that he still has the jitters and anxiety prior to every game. He feels blessed for having the opportunity to make a career after something he loves, and he's still passionate about it to this day:

“I was so lucky the thing that I was so good at was something I loved to do, which was throw the football around with my friends,” Brady said on his “Let’s Go!” podcast. “I made a career out of it and, 23 years in, literally I had anxiety and nerves before the first game of the season and you just feel like, ‘Why are there nerves?’ And why is there anxiety?’ You know why? Because you care.”

Retirement Is Looming

However, all good things eventually come to an end and his career won't be the exception to that rule. So, when asked about all the speculation over this being his final season, he was pretty close to confirming that report:

“That’s often the case lately,” Brady admitted. “I think for me, I’m just going to take it day by day. One of these days, they’re going to be right.”

It's An Emotional Season

It's been a tough couple of months for Brady. His marriage is going through complicated times, people are speculating about his life, and he knows he's walking towards the sunset of his career. All that has taken a big toll on him:

“I’m feeling things more than in the past for some reason," Brady admitted. "I’m just really feeling intensely my emotions, and I’ve always had that but I think when you get close to the end — and I don’t know exactly where I’m at with that; there’s no decision to be made, but it’s not like I have 10 years left — I definitely don’t have that. All these things, I’m never going to take for granted.”

Enough's Enough

And as much as he's enjoyed his career, it seems like he's done making that otherworldly commitment and giving up so many things for football:

"I haven’t had a Christmas in 23 years. I haven’t had a Thanksgiving in 23 years. I haven’t celebrated birthdays with people I care about born from August to late January. I haven’t been able to be at funerals and I haven’t been able to be at weddings, and I think there comes a point in life where you say, ‘You know what? I’ve had my fill, it’s enough,’ and be able to move into other parts of life," Brady concluded.

It's been an amazing ride, so thanks for the memories, Tom. Now, go make some of your own.
